Caplin Cove

The caplin roll is one of my favourite times of the year and this sweater captures all of my loves into one: a cardigan, a dolman, lace, colourwork, small intricate stitches. Starting at the cable strips and colourwork bands, the cardigan is knit top down and seamlessly. The pattern is written with two options for the colourwork and also two options for the side seams. The colourwork can either be knit in the round and steeked or knit flat with no steeks. The side seam options in the pattern are either open with a colourwork wedge (knit flat) or closed with no colourwork wedge.

The pattern contains a pattern file and charts files. Be sure to download the chart file corresponding to your size.

Lace and colourwork are charted only.

Julie Asselin Nurtured Fine (100% Rambouillet + Targhee + Merino fine wool; 708 metres / 780 yards per 112g) in:

If you use Julie Asselin’s Nurtured Fine, you will need: (3, 3, 3) (3, 3, 3) (4, 4, 5) cones of the MC and 1 cone of the CC.

Gauges

Lace: 31 sts and 37 rows to 10cm / 4” with size B needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Stranded Colourwork: 31 sts to 10cm / 4” and 11 rows/rounds to 3.5cm / 1.5” with size C needles after blocking (or needle size required to match gauge).

Needles and Notions

The gauges were achieved with the following needle sizes. To work the pattern as written, you must swatch and use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking. I tend to knit loosely so you may have to go up needle sizes.

Size A: 2.25mm (US 1)
Size B: 2.5mm (US 1.5)
Size C: 3mm (US 2.5)

You will also need:

(8, 8, 8) (8, 8, 8) (9, 10, 10) buttons 18mm (11/16”) in diameter (if you add length to the sweater body, then you will need more buttons), spare circular needles, interchangeable cables, or holders for holding stitches; darning needle for weaving in ends; stitch markers, removable markers.
