Cappadocia, a region in Eastern Turkey, is the land of carpets, where every little village, sometimes every family, has a unique textile creation with which to adorm their homes and oftimes, the world. But the landscape is equally famed, primarily for it’s otherworldly tufa pinnacles and the thousands of ancient cave homes carved from the rock, some dating from roman times.

Here is my bolero Capaddocia vest knit in sun-warmed earth tones with lacy free-range stitches designed to capture cave vistas amid the stone. Imagine it in your favorite color.

Slightly fitted, the back is a lacy panel worked bottom up and with the sides picked up and knit to the front in garter, seed and yarn over lace. The lower half of the lace panel results in a scalloped bottom. Fastened by a single button, the design is meant to be above hip length but can be adjusted to any length.

This design is begun the same for every body but makes necessary sizing adjustments at sides and fronts. The design can be adjusted for plus sizes by working seed stitch bands on either side of the lace back panel or by factoring in additional lace sequences.
