Capybara Snap Band
Every now and then, a project comes along that’s just bursting with heart and a little bit of magic. This time, I had the absolute joy of working with a very serious client—an imaginative 7-year-old (you can see my client’s hand on the first photo ) who had a problem: her toys were always getting lost. She wanted a plush friend who would stick by her side, no matter what. That’s how the idea for Capybara, the best snap band friend, was born!
Imagine a cuddly capybara plush that wraps around your wrist like a bracelet—ready for every adventure, playground dash, and story time. But my client didn’t stop there. She insisted her capybara needed a backpack, just like she’ll have when she heads off to school after summer break. The backpack had to be openable and removable (because, of course, capybaras need to pack snacks and secrets too!).
After a lot of giggles, sketches, and stitches, Capybara came to life—complete with a snuggly snap band and its own mini backpack. I can’t tell you how much fun this was to create, and I hope it brings just as much joy to your project!
For my projects I use yarn which meterage is 174 yards (159 meters) for 50 g, weight Sport / 5 ply (12 wpi), Gauge 24 to 30 st is 4 inches (10 cm) and D hook (3,25 mm). For the capybara you will also need a small button and two snap bands (slap bands) If you prefer not to use those, you can also use velcro tape - the pattern is fitted for that option as well.
