Car Wash Mitt

We love making stuff for the men in our lives but if you’ve been crocheting for a while chances are you’ve made him everything you found that he might use. Well this time my very own hubby asked me to make something for him for the first time in our nearly a decade together. You could have knocked me over with a feather! I was so pleased I set to designing it right away. I did my research… reading many customer reviews of similar factory-made products; ensuring that I knew what a man wanted in a car wash mitt - building that into the design while also including woman-friendly size instructions in the pattern.
One of the neatest features of this project is that you can get as creative as you like when you are adding the moppy bit, You can use up your scraps, make it striped or solid, or make a fun fluffy design all your own to personalize the mitt. The pattern tutorial photos show the project worked in contrasting colours so you can easily see the details.
This pattern is designed with Bernat Blanket yarn in mind - the polyester chenille is ultra soft, non-scratching, and super-absorbent so you get great suds when using it wet, and its also generates static when dry, which works great for dusting the interior dash of the vehicle and getting into all the nooks and crannies…or even your piano and window blinds. You can machine wash and dry (Skip the fabric softener though, as it coats the surface making it less absorbent, and can leave streaky residue) Bernat Blanket is also really well made, it doesn’t shed because the entire strand is sewn, not just threaded like a lot of brands of chenille yarn, so it won’t leave lint all over your car or furniture. I hope you enjoy making this, and your loved ones enjoy using it!

Materials:

  • Bernat Blanket Yarn - 300g ball (You’ll use most of it)
  • P hook (11.5 mm)
  • Latch hook or a K (6.5mm) crochet hook for the “yarn fingers”
