Named ‘Carapace’ for its resemblance to the patterns on a Tortoise’s upper shell, this 2 colour DK hat makes a great project for someone who feels they ‘have the basics down’ and wish to move on to something that combines many of their new skills in one pattern. Experienced knitters will find it to be a
straightforward but satisfying project.

Sizes:
Small – 17” ( 43cm) unstretched.
Large – 20 ” (51cm) unstretched.

Skill Level:
Medium/Easy. Skills needed are cast on, knit and purl, stocking stitch, knitting in the round, simple increases, colourwork, reading a chart and two different
decreases. Explanations provided in ‘Techniques’ section.

Tools needed:
2 skeins of Folkestone Harbour Yarn Double Knit merino hand dyed yarn (300m per 100g) available from www.FolkestoneHarbourYarn.com
4mm 40cm circular needles or double pointed needles.
Stitch marker to mark start/end of round.
Large needle for weaving in ends.

Yarn Substitutes: Any DK yarn with a weight to length ratio of 300m/100g or that knits to gauge.

Gauge:
Gauge is important otherwise your hat may be too big, or you may run out of yarn. The ideal gauge is 6 stitches and 7.5 rows per inch after blocking.
