This is a beautiful cardinal pattern for both the hat and mittens. The hat is a fairly easy knit and can be completed quickly. There are only two colours used at a time in stranded knitting. The beak can be knit into the pattern or added later with duplicate stitches. The mittens are a bit more difficult. Some experience making some of my other mitten patterns would be helpful.

The pattern is written as one size but does have stretch. As written, the hat is around 21 inches in circumference and 9.5 inches in length. The mittens are 8 inches in circumference and 10 inches in length.

This hat and mitten set was knit using Aran weight yarn (8wpi). If you use another weight yarn (eg. worsted) or knit tightly when doing stranded knitting, make sure you make adjustments, perhaps by using a larger needle size or your hat may come out too small.

This pattern has not been test knit. You can reach me at carolasheartstrings@gmail.com or my username on Ravelry: Cbaker259 with questions.
