CONSTRUCTION This medium sized market bag features seedhead bobbles, which are created by knitting into stitches below the live stitch and passing stitches over. The bag is worked from the bottom up, starting with a mitred square worked flat. Stitches are picked up around the edges of the square, and then worked in the round in twisted ribbing, increasing to the final bag circumference.

The ribbing and stitch pattern are worked with the outside side of the bag facing you, but then a wrap-and-turn is utilized so that the main body of the bag, which is done in reverse stockinette, is worked with the inside of the bag facing you. In this way, more stitches are knitted than purled. Another wrap-and-turn is worked before the handle, so that the twisted ribbing of the handle is done with the right side facing (so that the stitches are knit through the back loop, rather than purled through the back loop).

SIZING
One size, 12.25”/30 cm by 13.5”/33 cm flat measurements.

YARN
1 hank (210 m/ 229 y, 90 g) of Eco Harmony Worsted in “Natural”, 55% Organic Wool, 45% Organic Cotton, 233 m/ 254 y in 100 g.

If using a substitute yarn, a smooth, natural-fibre shows the bobbles best and, if it contains at least 50% wool, can reduce the hand strain caused by working the bobbles.

GAUGE in 4 in/10 cm after blocking
Mitred Square with Small needles, worked flat
20 sts by 38 rows.

Stockinette with Large needles, worked in the round
18 sts by 29 rnds.

NEEDLES
Small: 3.5 mm/ US4.
Large: 4 mm/ US6.
Substitute with sizes required to obtain gauge if needed. If your gauge alters working in the round compared to flat, adjust accordingly.

CORDS
14-16 inches (35-40 cm) for working flat and in the round. You may require a longer cord to work the Base of the Bag in magic loop.

NOTIONS
scissors, scrap yarn, tapestry needle, stitch markers (2).

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
seedhead bobbles, twisted ribbing, picking up stitches, backwards loop cast on.
