The incredible beauty of this design derives from its extreme simplicity. The unobtrusive embellishment–the little semi-wishbone at the base of the neck–is so subtle a decoration as to contradict itself. It is austere, quiet, and serene. Waist shaping is included to further belie its monastic look. The original garment was knit with two strands of a light DK weight cashmere (no longer available) held together, which helps account for the non-rolling of the edges. An alpaca or other camelid blend might approximate the same look if cashmere is out of reach.
