The carnation is a very popular flower often worn on special occasions and throughout the years it has gained very different meanings; from pink carnations becoming the symbol of a mother’s undying love to purple flowers indicating capriciousness. The botanical name for the carnation dianthus comes from Greek meaning “heavenly flower”.
