This pattern is available from etsy.com for $5.50.

This pattern produces a spherical pod that is approx. 14” in diameter with a 6” entrance and all of my cats (7 to 18lbs) sleep comfortably within it.

Two (2) strands worsted weight yarn are worked together in the round using either synthetic or natural fibers (as desired) so long as it is medium weight. Do not substitute single strand working with chunky or super chunky as the pod will not hold its shape. The multiple smaller strands are required to give it tensile strength. The increases and decreases are also staggered from round to round to avoid warping the spherical shape. Use two strands of the same yarn or two different yarns (as shown in the picture). You can also produce a striped pattern easily by changing out yarns mid-pattern.

If felting of the final product is desired, then the yarn must be animal-sourced (sheep’s wool, alpaca, etc.) Test your yarn to ensure that it will felt. There are many tutorials available on You Tube for felting instructions. If a larger starting pod is desired (to account for shrinkage) then an 18” diameter pod can be made with adjustments noted in the pattern.
