Tessalated cattiefaces adorn the yoke of this sweater, and little cats peek out from above the ribbing on the hem and cuffs. The Cateen Sweater is a chunky, cosy sweater, perfect for for chilly days and cool evenings.

Yarn

An Caitin Dubh - Caitín Sweater 100% organic merino
166m per 100g skein

The sweater pictured here uses Deeper Than Any Goodbye as the main colour, and Where The Raspberries Grow Wild as the contrast.

Choosing another yarn

Most aran-weight and heavier worsted-weight yarns should be suitable for this sweater - just be careful to get the correct gauge.
A wool or wool-mix yarn is best for colourwork, but the colourwork in this sweater is very straightforward and shouldn’ty be too tricky even in a non-wool yarn.

For the cosy winter sweater pictured you’ll want a yarn with some loft and bounce - wool and wool blends are perfect.

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rows to 10cm/ 4”, in stocking stitch, on a washed and blocked swatch.

Construction

This sweater is knit top-down, which keeps the cats’ little ears pointy.

The yoke combines circular and raglan shaping. The yoke begins with a circular contruction, and switches to raglan after the colourwork is complete. This helps minimise any extra bulk around the underarms while still keeping the sweater roomy and comfortable.

Sizing and yarn requirements

The chest measurement below is for the completed sweater - you’ll need to add the ease you want on to your chest measurement. The sweater is designed to be worn with 10cm or so of positive ease, although you can add more for a looser, layerable sweater, or less for a more fitted look.

The smallest size (0 - 6 mos) should be knittable with just one skein of each shade, but you may end up in a nailbiting game of yarn chicken. You can order kits with one skein if you’re happy to chance it, or get a second skein if you prefer to play it safe.
