This versatile scarf can serve as a hood, a cowl, or a shoulder warmer. Use a favourite pin to secure it as a cosy neckwarmer or collar! It is crocheted with super bulky yarn and a 10mm hook, so it is very quick to make for yourself or as a gift. It is a great way to highlight 2 luxury yarns, but could also be made with one yarn/one colour.

In many Victorian era books and magazines you will find a reference to “Russian Stitch” in crochet. This is often the stitch we now call ‘ribbed’ crochet: you always put your hook into the back loop only. Usually this is done in single crochet, but I have found it occasionally in double crochet and also in half double crochet. This pattern uses half double crochet in back loops. As the 2014 Winter Olympics are taking place in Sochi, which is located at the foot of the Caucasus Mountain Range, I thought it appropriate to use this great, textured stitch for the wrap which I designed and completed during the Olympics.

This wrap is the 3rd in the Mountain Series of designs. It honours the mountain range that looms above Sochi, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. The Caucasus Mountains are spectacular, and made watching the alpine events a delight.
Materials needed:

Yarn 1: 125g/100m For the gold/orange-blue-browns cowl I used vintage Jaeger “Natur Garn”

For the blue-purple-greys cowl I used Fleece Artist “Slubby Blue”

Yarn 2: 100g/100m For the gold/orange-blue-browns cowl I used a stash yarn whose ball band is missing

For the blue-purple-greys cowl I used Fleece Artist “Super Kid Loop”
