I’m going to get real with y’all….I spent a solid year writing this pattern. I am not even kidding. A. Whole. Freaking. Year.

You see, this cardigan was born from two emotions: Love and Jealousy.

Love? Because I love my husband and I wanted to make him something nice to wear.

Jealousy? Because I’ve always secretly envied the EPIC cabled cardigans the knitters are always showing off…so I vowed to create one for crocheters.

Details include: Pockets, puff collar, and an absolutely insane amount of cables.

I highly recommend the Vivalana Lofti DK yarn which appears in the December 2019 Knit Crate box. The mix of wool and alpaca adds warmth, drape, and softness while the cotton really shows off the stitch work. It really is the perfect yarn for this particular project. Especially if you’re looking to create that ‘heirloom’ piece.

Things you need to know: there are barely any basic stitches in this piece and this pattern is 15 pages long. With that said, I worked really hard to streamline this down so it is easy to understand and (after a couple of rows) pretty intuitive. So if you are an intermediate crocheter with an adventurous spirit, I am pretty sure you can tackle this. All of the special stitches are described in the pattern and if you have trouble, don’t be afraid to drop me a line. I’m sure I can hook you up with some video tutorials.

The construction is bottom up, but I have included instructions on how to add length to match big and tall men’s standard sizing or shorten it to match women’s standard sizing.

Outside of the basics (Yarn, hook, buttons), the last thing you will need to create this cardigan is: Ego. Because after finishing this baby, you will want to strut.

PS: There is a simplified version of this cardigan sized to fit children in my ravelry store called the ‘Cinnamon Spice Cardigan.’ Check it out, if you’re keen.
