This charming little cloche hearkens back to the 1920s with a classic bell shape and Art Deco-esque lace. It’s designed with considerable negative ease for a snug fit; this keeps it in place so you can sneak into speakeasies and dance the Charleston with abandon. It also opens up the lace.

Knit it up in muted, neutral tones for an era-appropriate look or bright, vivid colors for a retrofuturist approach. Instructions are given for stripes along each pattern repeat, so you don’t have to decide on just one color!

While only two sizes are provided, the pattern can easily be adapted. For a looser fit, cast on another 10 stitches (or 20, whatever you need) as each pattern repeat creates approximately 1.25” of width. Keep in mind, however, since there is no ribbing, the lace is what maintains the elasticity.

Choosing a yarn with natural elasticity and memory also helps. Juniper Moon Farm’s Moonshine yarn was the perfect choice not only because of its name but because of its fiber content. Wool, to keep it stretchy; alpaca, for a silent-film, soft-focus halo; and silk for a little taste of glamour and opulence.

Pattern directions are both written and charted.

Light worsted weight yarn with elasticity and memory; natural fibers recommended to best block the lace and relax the stitches. Shown in Juniper Moon Farm’s Moonshine (40% Wool, 40% Alpaca, 20% Silk, 197yds/180m per 100g skein).
