These mitts were designed by Maeve for Grá ’gus Snáth for the Wool Walk, because apparently she didn’t have enough going on already. They feature in Motifs and Malice, Book 4 of the Maeve Lynch Knitting Mysteries, where, as usual, things don’t go entirely to plan.

The spirals are created using right and left twists to form a Celtic triskele, one of those beautifully intricate motifs that looks far more complicated than it has any right to be… until you’re the one knitting it.

This is not a “switch off and chat” pattern, at least not at the start. You’ll need to pay attention. The thumb gusset increases run alongside the triskele, so there are a few moving parts to keep an eye on. Maeve strongly recommends using stitch markers around the 16-stitch pattern repeat and the thumb gusset as noted. Future you will be very grateful.
