This shawl is named for Toronto’s Centre Island. The Islands are a perfect place to find respite during Toronto’s blazing hot, smoggy Summers. We live just a quick ferry ride away from an amusement park, an adorable petting zoo, as well as gardens and cherry trees that are just gorgeous in the spring! The lace on this shawl reminds me of the water you can splash around in on the Island’s beaches.

This shawl has waves of unusual geometric lace that is applied as an edging along a simple stockinette body. Don’t let the look of the lace intimidate you! Once you get the hang of cabling those crosses you’ll be off to the races.

The sample was knit in the glorious KFI Silk sport, which has beautiful drape and shine. Anything with drape will do! Any silk, linen, bamboo or partial blend will be gorgeous. If substituting a fingering weight size your needle down to a 4mm or 3.75 if you knit loosely. The shawl pattern includes details about sizing up and down to accommodate yarn substitutions.
