I was recently dreaming of vacationing off of the coast of Australia, and have always been quite taken with the design of the nautilus. I have been trying to figure out how to recreate the swirl design in crochet, and I believe I have hit that mark! With the spiral stitch pattern and the flares extending from it, it had both the look of the nautilus and the cuttlefish. Seeing the combination of these two animals in one stitch pattern inspired me to name this piece after the genus of both of them, and the Cephalopod Easy Tunisian Shawl was born, in the first of what I hope to be a series of nautical and nature inspired pieces.
