Certain Death was designed for the 2014 round of the Super Sock Scarefest.

This design was inspired by Cabin in the Woods. The green represent the woods, in which the characters start off the movie. The gold represents the barrier they find themselves up against. The yellow/orange represents the stable of monsters. The red/orange represents their further decent into the evil lair, and the blood red is…well…blood. I can’t get more detailed without completely spoiling the fun of the movie for those who haven’t see it yet (and you totally need to see this movie!), but for those of you who have, you should be able to recognize what’s happening in this pattern.

The design is completely charted (in color). It is worked from the toe-up with an afterthought heel so you can really get the most out of the hand-dyed yarn and avoid interrupting the flow of the design. Links are provided for tutorials for Judy’s Magic Cast On, the Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off, and for avoiding holes while working an afterthough heel.

The sample was knit using Jest Sport Gradient Kit in Anjou, from Play At Life Fiber Arts. The heel was knit with dark brown Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, however I checked with the dyer from Play at Life and at this time she is willing and able to add in a mini-skein of brown for the heel if you decide to order her yarn (for a small additional fee to cover the cost of the extra yarn). Let her know in the “notes to seller” box on her Etsy page if you are interested in the mini-skein.
