For another installment of my “Knit Your PhD” project, I designed this sweater with diatoms of the genus Chaetoceros around the neckline and their resting spores (bobbles) around the waistline and sleeves. Chaetoceros live in the surface ocean and form resting spores that sink to the bottom of the ocean - a major focus of my PhD research was how resting spores influence sedimentary records of past ocean and climate conditions.

I designed this sweater for myself and am new to pattern design, so regrettably it only comes in one size: 33 in bust circumference with 3” of positive ease.
