This beautifully intricate cowl is the perfect project for advanced knitters. Knit stitch chains cross and interlock on a mesh background. The complexity of the stitches engages the mind, and the 5 sizes mean it should fit all teens and adults. This cowl matches my Chain Link Mitts, Chain Link Boot Cuffs, and Chain Link Hat Patterns. Why not make a whole outfit?

Yarn: DK weight, approx. 208-291 yds (190-266 m).
Yardage by size: XS=208 yds (190 m), S=228 yds (208.5 m), M=249 yds (228 m), Large=270 yds (247 m), XL=291 yds (266 m).

Shown in: Malabrigo Silky Merino, colorway 412, Teal Feathers. DK weight, 51% silk / 49% Merino Wool. 150 yds (137 m) per skein.

Needles: U.S. size 6 (4.0 mm) 16” (40.5 cm) circular needle or size needed to obtain gauge. U.S. Size 5 (3.75 mm) or U.S. Size 4 (3.5 mm) 16” (40.5 cm) circular needle for ribbing (one or two sizes down from size needed to obtain gauge). I normally don’t use a smaller needle for ribbing, but because this is a cowl, it helps the garment hold its shape and keep the right side showing. Sample shown used a U.S. Size 4 (3.5 mm) ribbing needle.

Gauge: 28 stitches and 34 rows in chain link pattern, worked in the round and unblocked = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm).

Notions: cable needle, locking stitch marker, tapestry needle.

Finished Measurements:
Height: 13” (33 cm).
Circumference: Size XS: 17. 5” (44 cm) {Size Small: 19” (48 cm), Size Medium: 21” (53 cm), Size Large: 23” (58 cm), Size XL: 24.5” (62 cm)}. Sizing may vary by ~ 1” (2.5 cm) based on if and how you block your cowl.

Sample Shown is Size Medium.
