Are you looking for a blanket pattern that

  • is easy to memorize?
  • looks more complicated than it really is?
  • is completely reversible?
  • can be made in any size?
  • can be used with any yarn and hook combination?
  • can be used with gradient, variegated, self striping, and solid yarns?
  • and only has four ends to weave in?

I’ve got you covered!

This simple moss stitch pattern uses only three of the most basic crochet stitches to create a fabulous, stripey, completely reversible, and infinitely customizable blanket. Once you get through the short setup, you can put away the pattern and crochet your way through your current Netflix binge show without pausing or missing a single plot twist.

Need a quick baby blanket? Choose worsted weight yarns and a larger hook, and you’ll have it done in no time. Have more time on your hands? Try fingering weight yarns or size 10 thread. Want to create a massive, striped masterpiece? Keep crocheting to your heart’s content. You can even work smaller squares and join them for an eye catching optical illusion-y effect. (Tips for this are on my to-do list. I just need to get a sample made.)

Don’t even get me started on color…You can use two different gradient yarns and let the yarn do the work for you, like I did. Two solids will create a classic, striped look. Black and a gradient or variegated yarn will give a stained glass feel to your finished piece. Use self striping yarns, or just old fashioned color changing, for simple color blocks. Two high contrast colorways will make for a trippy viewing experience, while complimentary colors can be quite calming.

The sky’s the limit! I can’t wait to see what you make!
