A small rose window forms the central motif of these socks. The inspiration for this ornament comes from the northern transept of the Marienstatt Abbey Church, a simple church in RhinelandPalatinate, Germany, typical of the Cistercian order.
The other elements of the socks are taken, with artistic license, from typical Gothic architectural elements. Those of you with an architectural interest will also recognize the buttresses that “support” the arch of the foot in these socks and are typically found on the sides of churches.
