In French, a chaperon is a short cape with a hood, like the one in Little Red Riding Hood.

Gauge

30 stitches and 44 rows per 10 cm / 4 in in 3 x 1 broken rib stitch after blocking
Wash your swatch in the same way as your future socks and allow it to dry completely before measuring.
