Make a cute holder for chapstick lip balm! Can be made with 6-strand embroidery thread or fine #2 weight yarn. There are more color choices when using embroidery thread, but it will be lacy-looking and you will see through the stitches more than when using the #2 fine weight yarn. If you use variegated yarn, you won’t have to switch colors at all, it happens automatically! One of my favorite yarns for these is the variegated Deborah Norville Serenity Garden Yarn, they all come out unique with different color patterns due to the small mount of yarn used in each one! I also love using Vanna’s Glamour yarn, with the tinsel woven throughout (see the photo with all the different colors and the gem button!) The gem buttons are found at Michael’s in the SCRAPBOOKING section - go figure!

Skills Level: Intermediate, due to working in rounds and switching colors (optional).

Stitches and Techniques used:
• Slip Stitch (SLST)
• Single Crochet (SC)
• Half Double Crochet (HDC)
• Double Crochet (DC)
• Back Loop Only (BLO)
• Begin with a Magic Loop or Chain-4 loop (see youtube.com)
• Crochet in Rounds

Materials Needed:
• 2 skeins of 6-strand embroidery thread (1 in each color) or Fine #2 fine weight (or sock weight).
• Size D (3.25 mm) Crochet Hook
• Stitch Marker to mark beginning st of a round
• Key Ring
• 1/2” Button to match

Gauge:
5 rows of sc = 1”. Should fit a tube of chap stick snugly.
- CHECK fit as you go. If it is turning out to be too big, switch to a smaller hook, or work less sts around. If too small, use bigger hook or add more sts around.
