This scarf draws inspiration from the chevron patterns prevalent in knit sweaters and various non-knit garments of the 1930s and 40s, combining both a sportive and elegant look.

In addition, the incorporation of stripes lends itself to a “Make Do and Mend” project. This makes it perfect for utilizing leftover yarn that have been sitting in your stash for far too long.

The size of the stripes and the number of colors can be adjusted to your personal taste and to the amount of yarn available.
The chevron pattern is created solely through the use of increases and decreases.

Larger needles were chosen for this project than those normally recommended for this type of yarn. Given that garter stitch knitting can become dense and tight, the use of bigger needles creates a softer and airier fabric.

This scarf is made entirely from leftover yarn, embracing the “Make Do and Mend” mindset. Feel free to do the same. Alternatively, some yarn options are listed below that were or can be used for this scarf, in case you prefer to purchase specific materials for the project.

Yarn option 1 (as used for sample):
Filcolana: Alva; 50g = 350 m (2 strands held together)
(100% Alpaca)

Yarn option 2:
Drops: Nord; 50 g = 170 m
(45% Alpaca, 30% Polyamide, 25% Wool)

Yarn option 3:
Lana Grossa: Ecopuno; 50 g = 215 m
(72 % Cotton, 17 % Merino wool, 11 % Alpaca)

… or any other yarn that fits the range of lace-, fingering- and sport-weight yarns
