‘Chasing Knots’ is a fun and quick eye-catching project worked in DK yarn. The design features an all-over mock cable pattern framed by columns of elongated slipped stitches. Its rich cable texture is a simple 4-round repeat that requires no cable needles, making this hat a great giftable item!

Construction
The hat is worked in the round from the bottom up. A tubular cast-on is followed by a unique ribbing that beautifully transitions into the all-over pattern featuring some intricate looking mock cables. Integrated decreases shape the crown and a fluffy pom-pom completes the look.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner.
Skills Needed: Cast on, knit, purl, work flat, work in the round, decrease.
Sizes: Child/Teen (Adult S/M, Adult L/XL) indicated as A (B, C): 43.5 (51, 54.5) cm/17½ (20¼, 21¾)“ circumference and 19 (22, 24) cm/7½ (8½, 9½)” tall.
Intended to fit with +4 cm/+1½“ to +7 cm/+2¾” ease. Shown in size B.

Materials:
DK weight yarn – approximately 105 (143, 167) m/115 (156, 183) yds;
Yarn used for sample – Sweet Paprika Designs Gavotte, DK weight yarn (CYCA 3) (115 g/4 oz, 173 m/190 yds, 100% BFL wool) in Stratus;
Main Needles – US size 7 (4.5 mm) 40 cm/16” long circular needles (or preferred needles to work small circumferences in the round) or size that gives you the necessary gauge;
Spare Needles for retrieving cast-on sts – same or smaller size than main needles;
Crochet hook for cast-on – H-8 (5 mm) or size close to main needles size;
Smooth waste yarn in weight close to main yarn for provisional cast-on;
2 removable stitch markers;
Tapestry needle;
Measuring tape.

Gauge:
22 sts and 26 rnds = 10 cm/4” in Knot Pattern in the round, with main needles, after blocking.
To save time, take time to check gauge.
