Inspired by the colour “Algae” by Essence of Autumn, I instantly knew this would be the The Chateau Laurier Cardigan, because the colour looks so much like the copper roof of this Ottawa landmark hotel.

I’m the model in these photos, and have an ample body. This sweater is designed to suit most body types. My sizing reflects the reality of women’s true body types, so the medium size fits size 16-18. This is the average size of a Canadian woman, so it makes sense to have it at the centre.

This sweater is knit in two sections. The first part, knit flat, makes up the back and sleeves. When it is finished the two sleeve seams are sewn up. The second part is knit by picking up stitches around the centre opening. It creates the collar and body of the cardigan using a combination of short rows (knit flat), and knitting in the round to build its shape. A little bit of striping, a button hole, and an icord bind off finish the sweater
