Chaukor (pronounced chalk-ore) is a rectangular shawl featuring a grid-like, textured lace pattern. The stitch pattern (worked over a multiple of 15 stitches and 18 rows) was inspired by the tie-and-dye fabrics of Rajasthan, India, and also the state’s breathtaking architecture – haveli windows in particular.

The pattern includes both written instructions and a chart.

To knit the shawl, you cast on a total of 81 stitches, including 6 border stitches (3 on either edge) that are knit on every row and 75 stitches (15 x 5) between the borders that are worked in the Chaukor stitch pattern.
