I put together this beginner washcloth series as a way for crochet beginners to practice the basics, but also come away with something valuable.

By crocheting the Checkered Colorblock Crochet Washcloth, you will be practicing several stitches and techniques. As for the basic stitches, this washcloth pattern uses single and double crochets alternatively. You will also have lots of practice changing yarn color, weaving in ends, and counting your stitches!

There are a few different reasons why I love this washcloth pattern. By alternating single and double crochet, you’re practicing each stitch and counting your stitches at the same time. Another reason why I love it is because it looks great with multiple colors. You can, of course, create this pattern using one color. But because of the staggering of rows, it looks so much better using multiple colors!

For this pattern you will need any medium weight cotton yarn in two colors. I used I Love This Cotton! by Hobby Lobby in Aqua and White. You will also need a 5mm crochet hook.

This crochet washcloth pattern is also incredibly easy to resize, which is explained within the pattern.
