I designed this with a beginner in mind with a simple construction of 2 panels joining together at the shoulders and the sides. However, in light of a slightly “complex” stitch, it is tagged as “Advanced Beginner” though once one gets the hang of the stitch, it goes pretty fast.

I got the inspiration for #Cheng from a top that I saw but I added a twist with the asymmetrical hemline. Then as I was making it, another idea crept in. That is, not seaming the long side so that I could tie it to give it a different look. As with most, if not all, of my designs, I designed with the flexibility for a maker to “customize” to make it their very own, be it the length, fit or style, so there are a few variations that you can try.

A few options on how one can construct each or both panels:

Fit - You can make it fitted (negative ease), fitting or relaxed fit (positive ease).

Length - You can make it any length you like and you can even opt to make the front and the back in different lengths.

Hemline - You can also make a slanted hemline a.k.a. asymmetrical hemline or split hem or just a normal straight hem. E.g. my red and white one.

Combinations of the above variations are plentiful! Below are just some examples to share:

• Relaxed, boxy fit i.e. length is short
• Seam or not seam the asymmetrical hemline (e.g. my red and white one)
• Fitted, long and split hem (e.g. my black one)
• Longer back panel
• Square vs straight neckline or low back (e.g. my pink mixed one)

Yarn usage will vary since this is a made-to-measure design. It depends on your size plus the style you are making. For reference, mine are as follows:

Black - Crocheted by Carisse 12-ply fine cotton yarn, sport weight, 171g, about 543m, hook 5mm.

Red & White - Generic cotton yarn, 133g, about 561m, hook 5mm.

Low Back - Generic silk yarn with beads, 95g, 397m, hook 4.5mm.
