Yarn

1 ball per each size of Merino Yak (Regia) 3.5oz/100g approx 437yd(400m),
58 % african merino wool,
28 % polyamide,
14 % yak.

Suggested substitute:

Regia Merino Yak, Filcolana Arwetta Classic, Regia Premium Cashmere, SISU Sandnes Garn, Fiber Co Cambria, Katia Cotton-Alpaka, Super Soft Lana Gatto.

Needles and hook

Set of dpns or circular needle size 4 (3.5mm) 32-40”/80-100cm long, OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

contrasting scrap yarn
crochet hook E/4 (3.5mm)

Also, you will need 2 buttons:

for the ear flap – any flat button approx 15-18mm in diameter,
for the crown – shank button (will be covered using a crochet hook), approx 15-20mm in diameter.

Gauge

26 sts and 40 rnds = 4”/10cm over Stockinette stitch using size 4 (3.5mm) needles after blocking

26 sts and 50 rnds = 4”/10cm in Garter stitch using size 4 (3.5mm) needles after blocking

Take time to check your gauge!

Construction

This is top-down double hat. Inner and outer hat joined at ears and forehead level.

Continue to work inner and outer hat stitches in the round at the same time. When the piece reaches the level of the ears at back of the head, work each ear flap separately.

Finish the hat with 4 seams: at forehead, at back of the head and at bottom edge of the ears.
