When your soul and body needs a little hug, cast on a dream yarn and lose yourself in the meditative act of brioche knitting. Yes, I have to admit, the inspiration for this shawl came from Tukuwool yarn. This pattern is an engaging knit with a beautiful result that lets your favorite yarn shine. The finished shawl will become a much loved warm and cozy winter wardrobe staple.

Set off your favorite colorful or variegated yarn on one side with contrasting background color on the other side. The result is like two different shawls because the fabric is completely reversible.

Chess Shawl is a sideways, asymmetrical shawl which begins with just 5 stitches at one tip and grows to its widest point, featuring a rectangular brioche motif that will look great in any yarn weight. The pattern is easily adjusted to any size by simply adding or reducing repeat sections.

The pattern includes both charts and full written instructions. It provides fully written row-by-row as well as charted instructions so you can choose which you prefer to work from.
Gauge is not so crucial for this design, but if your gauge differs from the pattern gauge, the dimensions of your shawl will be different as well. The pictured shawl was made with sport weight yarn, but the pattern can easily be worked in fingering, lace or DK weight yarn too.
