Linen stitch (sc, ch1) is adapted into a chevron pattern to create a textured, zigzagging project with excellent drape. The example given is of a scarf made with fingering-weight yarn, but the pattern can easily be adapted into a rectangle of any size with whatever yarn you have.

Any color or combination of colors can be used, but variegated yarn looks especially nice as the stitch pattern will show off the color variations. (In other words, it’s a great way to use that special hand-dyed variegated yarn you’ve been stashing for ages.)

This pattern is suitable for a beginner; as long as you know basic stitches, you’re good to go! One simple modified stitch is used, for which instructions are given.

Techniques you should know for this pattern:

Single crochet, aka “sc”
Chain stitch, aka “ch”
Single crochet two together, aka “sc2tog” (though there’s an explanation given as well)
Optional: changing colors when crocheting
