Chicago summers are hot and humid, yet also changeable. This kerchief is a great piece, whether you’re throwing it on to shop in the chilly AC, or to enjoy an evening on a restaurant’s patio.

Chicago Summers Kerchief is written in two sizes, and both work up quickly. The stripes can be changed to fit your style, or eliminated all together to simply let the texture shine. Enjoy!

Yarn notes- Tunisian Crochet
Typically Tunisian crochet is worked on a hook 1.5mm-2mm larger than the ball band recommends. This is because most animal fibers, like wool, have some natural stretch and bounce. It is easy to pull these yarns tightly and still manage to get your hook back into them.

Zooey is a plant fiber and does not have these stretch and bounce qualities. This causes us to naturally work a bit looser, so we are not fighting the stiffer quality of the yarn. This is why we do not need to go up in size as we normally would for Tunisian crochet.

Example: A wool DK weight yarn is typically worked on a US size K Tunisian crochet hook. However, working Zooey on a US size K created a fabric that I found to be too loose. If you are substituting yarns, because you don’t care for working with plant fibers or you’re stash busting, I recommend either: 1) use DK weight wool/blend yarn and a US size K hook; or 2) use a fingering weight wool/blend yarn and the US size H hook recommended for this pattern.

This will change your gauge a little, but it’s easy to add more rows to accommodate that change. This may change your yardage.
