The Chico River is a long and beautiful river and the lifeline of many indigenous tribes in the Northern Philippines. It is a symbol of the resilience of the indigenous peoples who opposed a major dam development project in the 70s. That project was going to uproot indigenous peoples from not only their ancestral lands but also their way of life that was (and continues to be) thriving. The opposition fought long and hard losing limb and life, but they prevailed and won. I was so inspired after reading stories of the Chico River so I wanted to name this wrap after it.

The Chico River Wrap is a worsted weight, trapezoid shaped wrap knitted from one end to the other. It features textured stitches, garter stripes and a central colourwork section featuring a simple motif which in my mind represents mountain ranges and a river. The motif is not based on any traditional patterns that I know of, but feels very much traditional.
