This 6 page PDF written pattern suits child size 4-10 years. The example pictured suits a child size 6-8 years. It is designed to be a loose fit for comfort with wide sleeves cuffed at the wrist. The pattern is extended for sizes 4-6 and 8-10.

8ply acrylic or wool Approx. 350-400g for size 6-8
I have used Carnival and acrylic scraps in 9 different colours
White
Fluoro pink
Pale pink
Pale yellow
Orange
Deep purple
Aqua
Green
Jade green/blue

Approximate weight of yarn is provided based on standard 8 ply acrylic yarn(Australian), if in doubt grab an extra ball or two of yarn so you don’t run out! This project is perfect to use up all those scraps from other projects so go wild with colour combinations.

I’d rather jump into a project than make gauge test squares so jump in and work until the squares are approximately the correct size by adding or reducing the number of rows (do same for sleeves). It will stretch a little and the design is already for an oversized fit, please take this into account. If you want a gauge my first 4 rows of the granny squares were approx. 10cm x 10cm with 5mm hook.

The size will depend on your yarn gauge and hook size. This suits my daughter as pictured size 6-8 years. To assist I have measured the final top laying flat:
125 cm from arm cuff to cuff (child actual wrist to wrist approx. 80-90 cm)
42 cm from underarm to underarm, (child actual chest circumference approx. 65-75cm, shoulder width approx. 30-40cm)
48-50 cm from shoulder to bottom. (child actual shoulder to waist approx. 35-40 cm)

The pattern is written with a construction method to minimise the need to join by sewing (there are enough ends to sew in already with the colour changes!). The minimal joins are crocheted together and other parts are directly crocheted to the top (i.e. sleeves to body).

Extra tip: if you find your granny square is twisting, just turn your work over each row and work back the other way this will square up your granny squares! There is no front/back of your work to be worried about.

Have fun creating your own Child Granny Square Top!!
