Inspired by the penultimate Bernie Sanders’ mittens, here is a pattern of stranded color work children’s mittens with a thumb gusset. The pattern instructions are for a medium size child’s mittens - approximately ages 4-8. The pattern could be easily adapted for larger children sizes by adding solid color work rows as necessary or smaller children sizes by removing some of the color work rows.

I used a variety of worsted weight yarns in wool blends and acrylic to achieve the color pattern of the original Bernie Sander’s mittens. Since these are children’s mittens, washability was a factor in choosing yarns. Have fun with this pattern! Happy knitting!
