This is the pattern for a child’s small crochet bag with front pocket.

It is a fairly easy pattern, written in English US terms, and suitable for beginners who know ch, sc, hdc, dc, sl stitch joins and how to crochet in back loops (there are many videos and free instructions online for these stitches).

The bag can be made in a variety of yarns and hook sizes. I used double knit and a 4.5mm hook, which gave me a bag measuring 6.75 inches in height (minus strap) times 6 inches in width.
But you can change the yarn and hook size to make a smaller or larger bag.

To get the same design look, you will need:
crochet hook,
2 different colour yarns (I used less than 50 grams in all).
Darning needle/large hole needle (best with a blunt end), for securing and threading ends and threading the tie closure decoration.

The bag is similar to many other little crochet bags, but the front pocket is a crochet square I designed, so it is a bit different.

Written pattern instructions include photos of various stages, plus suggestions on length of shoulder strap and full assembly instructions.

I have made several of these bags, so the pattern has been tested, but only by me. It is my first written pattern, so I hope I have provided enough help for you. but if you do have problems understanding the instructions, please let me know.

Note (October 2019):
I have updated this pattern to make it clearer.
All notes and explanations are made in correct (US) crochet terms (there are a couple of new pictures too :)
