In collaboration with Lauren of Valkyrie Fibers Tahoe, I designed the Chimera Hat. Lauren graciously gave me the self-striping fingering weight yarn I needed to construct my prototype. This pattern was fun to make, so hopefully you enjoy it as well!

GAUGE: 22 sts x 12 rounds = 4 inches

NOTES

  1. Read the pattern carefully before starting.
  2. This pattern is worked from the bottom up, in the rounds.
  3. Ch 2 does not count as a stitch; Ch 3 counts as 1 Double Crochet.
  4. I recommend using a stitch marker to mark the 1st stitch of each round. Remember to move stitch markers as you progress.
      • repeat instructions between asterisks as many times as directed or repeat at specified locations.
  5. Please measure for a more precise fit as not all heads fit into age-based sizes. You should add or subtract 6 stitches from the foundation chains/stitches in order to change the size of your hat. Add or remove a pattern repeat before shaping the crown pattern to achieve a more fitted or slouchy look. Keep in mind that the pattern repeat is a multiple of 6. Although the pattern calls for yarn with fingering weights, you can use any kind of weights you prefer.
