The rich brown colour of the yarn inspired the cable pattern featured in this sweater, evoking the smooth texture of a terrine au chocolat. The cable motif, first used in one of Kaori Katsurada’s sock patterns, remains a particular favourite. In Japan, terrine au chocolat is often affectionately shortened to chocolaterrine, whose distinctive sound inspired the name of the design. The sweater features a saddle-shoulder-inspired silhouette with a compact neckline and gently shaped sleeves. Whether worked in a smooth, drapey yarn or a woollier yarn that emphasises the cables, the design takes on a character of its own.

NOTES
This sweater is worked top down, starting with the tall ribbed collar. German Short Rows are used to shape the back neck. The shoulders are then shaped using a saddle construction during the yoke. Flowing from the collar ribbing, they also feature a cable-and-slipped-st motif, framed with St St. After the yoke is complete, the sleeves are placed on hold while the body is worked in the round in St St, down to a ribbed hem that echoes the collar detail. Each sleeve then continues the established pattern, which flows into the ribbed cuff, again with the matching detail.
