Do you love to knit and watch movies or TV shows? It is one of my favorite things to do. I have always been a fidgeter while watching movies (even though movies are my favorite), so knitting while I watch is such a great way to keep my hands busy and my mind engaged.

Chomp! : A whimsical asymmetrical triangle shawl knit on the bias to create a lovely boomerang shape, knit using a combination of garter stitch, soothing eyelet ridges, and my favorite two-color brioche, perfect for knitting and watching your favorite show.

When Fangirl Fibers released their 50th Anniversary Jaws Sock Set, I knew I needed to design a shawl that could be knit while watching Shark Week on the Discovery Channel! Not a fan of Shark Week or shark movies like Jaws, The Meg and more classic films like Santa Jaws? Well, you could certainly still make this shawl! Color combos are endless!!

Yarn Notes:
There’s something in the water!!! I was inspired by this yarn to create a super fun and easy breezy shawl pattern that we could all knit during Shark Week! This yarn was dyed for the 50th Anniversary of JAWS by Fangirl Fibers, and so is the perfect pairing for a lovely shark-inspired shawl. Don’t love sharks or shark movies? This shawl is PERFECT for any fingering weight sock set you might have, or if you have tons of One-Of-A-Kind full skeins in your stash and also a lot of minis. Hello, that’s me. I’m not a huge sock knitter, so a shawl made a lot more sense.

Please note the yardage of my skeins of yarn! I used almost ALL 400 yards / 366 m of my full skein, as well as almost all of both mini skeins. You can use a sock set as well, or go stash diving for a full size skein of variegated or speckled yarn, then 2 solid mini skeins! Be sure to check the yardage on your skein, you may use all of your yarn. Because this shawl is knit from side to side, it’s easy to see the length of your project and how much yarn you’re using. I recommend that your mini skeins be semi-solid or tonal, but you can certainly use speckled or variegated minis, as long as there is high contrast.

See last photo here of my yarn in skein form.

Skill Level:
Beginner Brioche Friendly!! This is a fantastic pattern for TV watching for those with brioche experience, and fabulous for those wanting to learn how to knit two-color brioche flat!

Techniques Used:
knit, purl, knit increases and decreases, yarn-overs for eyelets, brioche knit (brk), brioche purl (brp), sl1yo, short rows over garter stitch (no wrap & turn), Twisted German Cast On, Elastic Bind Off

Construction Notes:
Grab your Fangirl Fibers Sock Set or any OOAK skein of speckled or variegated yarn in your stash plus 2 mini skeins, to knit up this super quick shawlette! Starting with very few stitches then increasing more stitches on the right edge while decreasing fewer stitches on the left edge creates an engaging shape that is knit on the bias. You will work through different textural stripes, beginning with easy breezy garter stitch to get your shawl going. Then Eyelet Ridges that are quite addicting, followed by Brioche Sharks - just two-color brioche stripes with no shawl shaping! Then you will alternate between these two techniques to showcase how the yarn looks on those different fabrics, then bring in your minis for extra color pops. This shawl is very repetitive so it’s soothing but also engaging. You will end your shawl with a dramatic Shark Bite, which includes garter stitch short rows, and a bit of lace to mimic shark teeth.

I really do love this shawl shape! It’s great for all weather and can easily be worn loosely over your shoulders if you get chilly, or wound tightly around your neck on those cold days.
