Chouchou French Scrunchie
A simple French “chouchou” scrunchie. This pattern is basic and can serve as a guide-- gauge is not critical. You can use a thinner yarn and needles for a smaller scrunchie, as I did with the beige one using leftover yarn from my Double Lace Rib Sock project.
You are basically knitting a long skinny tube, threading a piece of flat knit elastic through it (I used 1/4” wide), then tying the ends of the elastic loosely together. After seaming up the cast on and bind off edges, fish out your knot through the weave and tighten your knot to your desired tension, then tuck it back in.
I used Rico Design Luxury Alpaca Superfine Aran in colorway 018 for the black one and La Droguerie Soyeuse in Pousierre d’Etoile for the light blue one, both purchased on different trips to Paris. Authentique ;)
PATTERN:
CO 40 sts
Knit in the round until the tube is approximately 19” long
Thread elastic through as indicated above
Seam bind off edge to cast on edge using mattress stitch
Pull elastic through your knitted piece, and re-tie your knot to your desired tension. Push back into the scrunchie.
TO WEAR:
For a simple, elegant chignon, put the chouchou on your wrist and gather hair at the nape of your neck. Twist into a simple cinnamon bun and pull the scrunchie off your wrist and over the base of the bun. Twist once and secure.
