This pattern is available from gifthorsekits.co.uk for £4.00.

Two Christmas knitting patterns in one, this pattern takes you step-by-step through knitting and making up both a Winter Fairy and a traditional Christmas Angel doll in soft chunky yarn. These dolls have wings, wands and sparkles and they would make a lovely pre-Christmas present for children.

Worked flat in stocking-stitch on 4.5mm straight knitting needles, they are a fun winter weekend knitting project, and suitable for those with just a little knitting experience. The fairy dress is decorated with felt holly berries and leaves, and the angel’s dress with sparkly sequins.

You can use any chunky weight yarn to knit these dolls, the yarns used in our examples are below:

Winter Fairy (with hair in bunches):

  • About half a ball of Stylecraft Special Chunky in Pistachio 1822 (skirt colour)
  • About half a ball of Paintbox Simply Chunky in Ballet Pink 352 (skin tone)
  • Small amount of Paintbox Simply Chunky in Blood Orange 319 for the hair
  • Small amount of Cygnet Kiddies Supersoft Chunky in Clover 2062 for the hem colour, collar and shoes
  • Small amount of King Cole Big Value Chunky in Yellow 828 for the wings

Christmas Angel (with hair in a bun):

  • About three quarters of a ball of Paintbox Simply Chunky in White 300 (skirt colour, shoes and collar)
  • About half a ball of Paintbox Simply Chunky in Ballet Pink 352 (skin tone)
  • Small amount of King Cole Big Value Chunky in Yellow 828 for the hair & wings
  • Small amount of darker pink yarn for the hem colour- we used Paintbox Simply Chunky in Bubblegum Pink 350

You’ll also need 4.5mm knitting needles, felt, sequins, stuffing, a pair of 6mm toy safety eyes per doll, sewing needles and thread.
