Christmas Lopi Sweater
Christmas Lopi Sweater is a festive Icelandic-style sweater featuring a classic circular yoke with Christmas trees and traditional colorwork motifs.
Originally published in 2019, the pattern has now been updated and regraded with a new, more comfortable fit. Over the years, I received helpful feedback from knitters who found the original sizing a little too fitted, particularly through the body and sleeves. I’ve taken that feedback into account and revised the pattern to allow more room and positive ease while keeping the sweater’s original look and character.
The updated pattern includes five sizes, designed to fit bust measurements from 80–120 cm / 31½–47¼“, with approximately 5–10 cm / 2–4” of positive ease.
The sweater is knit seamlessly from the bottom up. The body and sleeves are worked separately in the round and joined at the underarms before working the stranded-colorwork circular yoke. The underarms are grafted using Kitchener stitch during finishing.
The sample is shown in traditional Christmas red, green and white, but the design works beautifully in many different color combinations — from classic Nordic neutrals to softer or more contemporary palettes.
The pattern was originally designed using Icelandic wool. I knit with double-stranded Plötulopi, but you can substitute another Aran/heavy worsted weight yarn that gives the required gauge of 14 sts per 10 cm / 4”.
