This pattern is for a mosaic crochet square that can be used in other types of projects, such as blankets, pillows, satchel bags, table mats, etc.

Any yarn or hook will work, depending on the desired size of the finished square. I used yarn weight of 4 with a 5.5 hook, which creates a square of 13.5” x 13”.

To complete this pattern as in the image, you will need 4 colors of yarn to stitch the square - one for the background (I used turquoise) and 3 colors for the snowman (I used white, brown & black). You can also stitch this pattern with only 2 colors if you wish - one for the background and one for all of the snowman, including the arms & hat.

Once the square is done, you can add optional French knots in black for the eyes, mouth & buttons, and then use some scrap orange for the nose. I also stitched a red scarf & attached it after the fact. This will all be included in the instructions but these embellishments are optional. French knots for the falling snowflakes might look nice as well but I left the snowflakes as is.

This is a great way to use up scraps! All together, you will need approximately 2 oz of blue (background color) and 2 oz of white, and less than .5 oz of black, brown & red.

Pattern is in US crochet terms.
