Wrap up some festive cheer with this little overlay mosaic Christmas present coaster!

The Christmas Present Coaster was inspired by the presents on my Dashing Dachshunds Christmas blanket. Not everyone fancies a blanket-sized project at this time of year, so this is a smaller, quicker way to enjoy the same festive motif.

Worked in overlay mosaic crochet, the design is built around a central Christmas present with a bow. It’s a lovely project if you’re new to overlay mosaic and want to try the technique on something small, and it’s also a good way to use up scraps.

Two ways to make it:
Coaster: work the central present motif as it is, for a neat, cosy coaster
Mug rug or hot pad: add the envelope border for a larger finished piece

Finished size (without envelope border) apx. 13 by 14cm (5.25 by 5.5 inches).

• Stylecraft Highland Heathers (thistle) apx. 16m/18yds
• Stylecraft Special DK (white) apx. 18m/19 yds
