In medieval Germany, people began bringing evergreen trees into their homes during winter to symbolize life and hope in the cold months. By the 16th century, these trees were decorated with candles, inspired by the beauty of stars shining through branches. The tradition spread, and over time, the Christmas tree became a symbol of warmth, light, and renewal, celebrating nature’s endurance and the promise of brighter days ahead.

ABOUT THE PATTERN

The PDF includes detailed instructions on everything you need to know to crochet the Christmas tree and the decorative Christmas ornaments (star, baubles, presents & bird). It can be followed step-by-step and is accompanied by photos for all the trickier parts.

Next to the written pattern, the PDF includes a list of all needed materials & tools, a table of all stitch types/abbreviations required for this pattern, and also a tutorial section with detailed explanations for some of the more unusual used stitches and techniques. The exact yarn colors & skein amounts I used are also included in the pattern.

If you find any typos, mistakes, or unclear parts, please let me know and I’ll do my best to correct & update the pattern!

ABOUT THE FINISHED CHRISTMAS TREE

With the hook size and yarn type I’m using, the final Christmas tree roughly measures 26cm tall (32cm with star at the top), and around 16cm wide (25cm with arms stretched out to the side).
