Construction
The mittens are knitted in the round, from the wrist up, on 5 double-pointed needles. Waste yarn is used to create the opening for the thumb. Shaping is done using the traditional Portuguese technique.

Techniques
Knitting with double-pointed needles.
Portuguese knitting vs. other methods
The mittens are knitted in the round and can be entirely purled or knitted, according to your preferred method. Most Portuguese-style knitters prefer purling on the wrong side of the garment. Because both techniques can be used, the pattern uses work (x sts/rounds) instead of purl or knit (x sts/rounds).
