This Outlander inspired crocheted shawl is designed like a Celtic shield; Sgaith is Scottish Gaelic for shield. Jamie, represented by the Celtic braid down the spine of the shawl, is Claire’s shield. On their wedding day, Jamie pledged to always protect Claire, even with his body. His protection as far as Claire is concerned is far more than physical. As long as she has Jamie in her life, he is her shield; with him she can recover from, or persist through, any ordeal. The wingspan of this shawl is 100 inches, so the shawl can be worn in a wrap-around style and tied at the back. Made with DK weight yarn (150g/570yds for the spine and border & 100g/380yds for the contrasting wings), this Faroe-shaped shawl uses post stitches and half double stitches to create the braid, while the rest of the shawl is crocheted in double crochet stitch.
