Clara's cat paw socks
Clara’s cat paw socks
by Hannah Hollyhock
This pattern is deliberately sized for larger feet - these socks are easy to find in girl’s/women’s sizes, but not so much for a 16-year-old boy with size EU42 feet (Medium in this pattern).
You can adjust the fit up or down a size. Bear in mind there is negative easing and they will look longer than when you put them on - like stockings. This is deliberate so it is possible to wear them under shoes without them going baggy and slipping down inside the shoe.
Teddy Yarn (eyelash yarn) is all artificial fibre and there is already a certain amount of stretch. This pattern uses a 2 row stripe, you can’t see the stitches between the fluff, so if this is your first time knitting socks with eyelash yarn, it’s very hard to pick up stitches if you need to frog back a few rows, so may be prudent to use a life line, for example, if you prefer.
The paw uses Intarsia knitting (using strands of yarn). For the top side, you can use one strand of black per claw, dropping the strand to the back of the work. For the toe beans, I would take a strand about 50-80cm long folded in half, introducing it using one end then on the next row using the other end.
